Civita has unsurpassed local food, wine, and olive oil. There are a number of excellent restaurants in the village or cook in the inviting kitchen. Enjoy dining in the main house, or in good weather eat on the roof terrace or in the garden. Shopping is fun in nearby Bagnoregio, where there are small bakeries, butchers, fruit and vegetable shops, a supermarket and even a Monday morning outdoor market. A rolling shopping cart in the house makes it easy to bring purchases up the bridge, or pay a small fee to have a small tractor bring things up the bridge for you.
LOCAL SPECIALTIES
Every season features its own specialties. Summer favorites include fried zucchini flowers, tomatoes with local buffalo mozzarella, and of course gelato. In the fall enjoy figs from our own tree in the garden, the wine harvest, and wild boar and papardalle. Winter brings hearty soups such as ribollita, minestrone, and pumpkin and chestnuts. In spring enjoy risotto al carciofi (artichoke risotto) or local asparagus. Year rounds favorites include bruschetta with a variety of toppings, grilled meats, artisan cheeses and local olive oil. Both red and white wines, made locally without sulfites, complete any meal.
